Punk Rock Photography - In Conversation with Alec MacKaye by Chris Suspect

The Make*Up at The Black Cat in Washington, DC, May 19, 2019 © Chris Suspect 2022

This coming Thursday, Oct. 6 at 6:30 pm I am excited to announce I will be in conversation with writer and musician Alec MacKaye at the Mt Pleasant Public Library at 3160 16th St., NW, Washington, D.C. The topics of discussion are my work around punk rock photography and our experiences in the DC/punk and hardcore scene. A looping slide show will feature 100 of my images of 70 different bands from the last 12 years.

Alec wrote the intro to my first book Suspect Device that was published in 2014 so we have 8 years of catching up to do!

Below are all the bands that will be featured and a large portion of these images have never been published before.

The event is free. Starts at 6:30 and goes for 1 hour, so please arrive early. Afterwards we can all go to a neighborhood bar in Mt. Pleasant for some food and drink. Details to be posted on the Facebook Event page..

This event is brought to you by the DC Public Library and the DC Punk Archive

Beyond the Frame with Chris Suspect by Chris Suspect

It was a real honor to work with Tim Huynh on the first episode of Beyond the Frame, a slick, well-produced vignette of a photographer's career to date. This is a compelling and fast-paced video that covers my previous life in a punk rock band, how I got interested in photography, and the projects I have pursued throughout my career. I really enjoyed digging through my archival materials, from old family photos, projects, punk fliers and video footage for this video. And, it was also fun to help fill in some visual gaps by creating current footage of me on the streets shooting in DC.

Psychotic Reactions - Online Exhibit with Landscape Stories Magazine by Chris Suspect

I am honored to have two of my projects, harDCore and Gratuity Included featured in this online exhibition called Psychotic Reactions on Landscape Stories Magazine out of Italy.

The exhibit attempts to answer the question "What are the songs that struck us in our adolescence? And then how much music has been a constant presence during our life? What was hiding and what still hides behind that sort of iridescent carnival sound?"

The exhibit features work and quotes from many notable writers and photographers including Chris Killip, Deanna Templeton, Jon Savage, William Gibson, Kirk Weddle, Michael Lavine, and many more.

Gratuity Included Book Release Party and Exhibit is Rescheduled by Chris Suspect

As we consistently see events cancelled thanks to COVID-19, I am sad to say my Book Release Party and Exhibit for Gratuity Included on Mar 27th at sPACYcLOUd is also being postponed for the safety of all. We are currently looking at May 8th for now, but it's all still tentative.

So in the spirit of keeping social distancing social, here are some photos of I Against EYE and Zealot RIP, the two bands that were and still are going to play the book release party and exhibit.

And if you haven't heard the second edition of Gratuity Included is now at the printers, so if you missed the first edition and want a copy they are available for presale.

Stay safe out there!

My image from a fight in a punk squat in Bogota, Colombia will be on display at Praxis Photo Arts Center in Minneapolis as part of a group show entitled "After Dark". Opening night is November 22nd, 2019 from 6-8PM and the exhibition will be on show through Dec 22nd, 2019.

A few years ago this one was plastered on the side of Nat Geo's Museum during FotoWeek DC (RIP). Glad to see it's still got life!
