Gratuity Included Reviewed by Japan Camera Hunter by Chris Suspect

Gratuity Included got a really strong review in Japan Camera Hunter today. I had to send the second edition because the first ones with all that sexy red poly sold out so fast.

Here’s a quick quote from the review:

The zine is chock full of off the wall situations, quirky juxtapositions, off-kilter compositions and raw intensity (sometimes all in the same frame). You can see the influence of Weegee’s flash work, the strange interactions that Anders Petersen captures and the triangular compositional approach of Larry Fink. But he also manages to add his own unique grimy tone and stamp that is honest, raw and engaging.

The second edition is available in the shop.

Chris Suspect on Garry Winogrand's "Hollywood and Vine" by Chris Suspect

This year I have the pleasure of speaking at the London Street Photography Festival Aug. 28-30.

The LSPF team, Mary Timohova and Dmitry Stepanenko, asked me to create a quick video about one of my favorite images. I chose Garry Winogrand's "Hollywood and Vine."

I often use this image in my street photography workshops for an exercise where I ask my students to critique an image using the Feldman system of criticism.

Give it a watch and feel free to leave your own critique in the comments (or a critique of my critique! 😂)

Of course I won't be in London proper (which is a real bummer), but I will be on all of your iThings and internet connected devices. I will know more about when as the dates near.

Interview with Chris Suspect on The Candid Frame Podcast Episode 516 by Chris Suspect

I just completed an interview with Ibarionex Perello of the Candid Frame Podcast that was published this week. We discuss my work, my new book Leather Boyz and what it's like to shoot various subcultures, among other things. I am episode no. 516 which should tell you that this podcast is one of the longest running photography podcasts out there. I have been a big fan for a long time and it's one of the go to photography resources out there for me. To say I am a bit chuffed (as the Brits would exclaim) is an understatement. Please give it a listen and be sure to subscribe.
